On Tuesday Aug. 27, Krissy Werner, who had been missing since Aug. 26 after running of during a game of hide and seek, was found in a crevice the Bald Mountain Recreation Area
.
Werner was found with the assistance of volunteers Amy Wright and Hope Abbott. Both joined the volunteers early in the morning, knowing they might be able to provide special assistance in the search for the missing girl.
Park Ranger Ed Canon, the leader of the group who found Werner, thanked all the volunteers: "We could not have done it without everyone who came out and volunteered to search for this girl. They were wonderful and we are very grateful."
Werner's parents commented very briefly before returning to their daughter's bedside. "All we can do is thank the Lord our daughter has been returned to us. It will be hard for us to have her leave our sight for a while, I think."
One volunteer said: "I was happy to help and I'm glad Krissy was found."
Many of the volunteers expressed similar sentiments. "I have a daughter the same age as Krissy. I know I would be devastated if she was missing and I could do nothing but help to look for her," said volunteer Annie Chickenham.
Neither Abbott or Wright were available for comment.
Werner is currently in stable condition at Henry Ford Hospital. She is expected to make a full recovery, and will be released within the next couple of days.
